Fi Life is an approved participant in the Bank Negara Malaysia Regulatory Sandbox to offer life, total and permanent disability, critical illness and accidental death insurance.
Our operations in Malaysia began in 2018 when we acquired the life insurance distribution business of U For Life, Malaysia's first direct-to-consumer online life insurance service.
All of our life insurance products are reinsured by a leading global reinsurer with a Standard & Poor’s rating of AA-, to ensure that we are able to fulfil all our insurance commitments to our customers.
We are regulated by Bank Negara Malaysia, and in due course, further approval under the Financial Services Act 2013 would be required for us to acquire a full licensed insurer status.
Malek Ali
Malek founded Fi Life in 2018. He was appalled at how unnecessarily complicated and expensive life insurance is in Malaysia which even he, with his Harvard MBA credentials, found hard to understand. He vowed to disrupt the Malaysian life insurance industry by offering simple, easy-to-understand and inexpensive life insurance.
Malek is also the founder of Malaysia’s most influential radio station, BFM 89.9, and a certified financial planner.
Tan Jiann Meng
Jiann Meng co-founded Fi Life with Malek, A Cambridge University Math graduate, a former credit analyst with bond asset manager Opus Asset Management and a certified financial planner, he too was motivated to co-found Fi Life because of the unnecessary complexity and cost of existing life insurance products.
Liew Pek Hin
Liew was the former CEO of Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Bhd with 25 years of actuarial experience spanning life and general insurance. He was a past President of the Actuarial Society of Malaysia.
Liew is the chairman of the Fi Life board.
Eric Ooi
Eric Ooi was a partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), and had specific experience of auditing banking and insurance groups. He has 38 years of audit experience and rose to become the Asia leader of PwC’s Assurance practice He is currently an Independent non-executive director of Genting Berhad and BAT Malaysia Berhad.
Christopher Leong
Christopher is the current managing partner of Chooi & Co, a prominent Malaysian law firm. Christopher specialises in corporate, banking, securities and commercial litigation and arbitration. and banking and securities litigation. Christopher was the Chairman of the Bar Council of Malaysia from 2013 to 2015.
